THE GRAPHIC NOVEL
The film was successful and shown worldwide, introducing many people to Odawa culture and the Anishinaabemowin language. But a film has limits, and that’s where the graphic novel came in.
The novel gives audiences something to take home, helping them see and start learning Anishinaabemowin for themselves. With both languages side by side in the speech bubbles, readers can follow along with the story and gain an appreciation of the language in a way the film alone couldn’t provide.

This book is meant for everyone. Adults can discover the beauty of the Anishinaabe language, while children can get lost in the pictures and story. Parents will find a gentle way to talk about life and loss, and anyone can carry home a little piece of Northern Michigan within its pages.
Where can I get it?
Production is still underway, and the printing process can take some time, but the first copies should be available by Spring 2026.
